Morton Schools host annual community prayer walk event

Morton schools host the annual prayer walk event on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at 7:00 pm in front of the school's cafeteria on the Panther Pad.

The yearly prayer walk is organized by the Scott County Baptist Association with the purpose of covering our schools, staff, and students in prayer for the upcoming school year.  Opening the schools allow the community to put feet to prayers.

For the first time in three years, a brief worship service was conducted on the Panther Pad, where singing took place.  Springfield Baptist provided music.  Jared Vardaman played the guitar and sang.  Jerry Lewis played a beat on a drum and lead the group in a prayer before sending the crowd to buildings.

Approximately 100 individuals showed up at the Morton Elementary/High School campus and about 50 individuals at the middle school campus to walk and pray throughout the school.

Morton Elementary K-2 Principal, MaryLynn Crotwell feels that the prayer walk is an amazing way for the surrounding community to unite and pray for our schools and a great school year.

"Seeing our community support our school is amazing.  Seeing some of our students (elementary and high school) touching classroom doors and hearing their prayers is humbling and mighty at the same time.  As a Christian, I covet prayers for our schools, staff, students, and myself."

Notes were left behind that provide encouragement to educators through the difficult parts of the year.
