About AR Club

The Accelerated Reader Club, known as the AR Club, serves to promote a love for reading among students and increase successful independent reading among our scholars. These students are recognized each 9 weeks with a celebration for meeting the 9 weeks goal. For lower elementary, teachers recognize these students by setting class goals and recognizing students at awards day. At the upper elementary (3rd & 4th grade), students work to eventually become a part of the 100 point club, 200 point club, and 300 point club, at which they are presented a reading metal and an AR certificate of achievement.

Accelerated Reader is a reading program where students take quizzes on reading books that's on their individualized reading level based on the STAR Reading assessment. Students can take quizzes on any technology device while at school working to meet their AR goal. Each book is worth a certain number of points and the number of points students earn is based on the number of questions answered correctly.

AR Club sponsor, Mr. DeAnte Spann, feels that this program has helped improve reading comprehension among students. "As a valuable resource to instill a love for reading, while testing and improving comprehension skills, AR has helped improve reading instruction. The club is an additional way to recognize and support students to become better readers and leaders", shared Spann. "I feel confident that if we continue to encourage students to have a love for reading through modeling, novel studies, etc., we will continue our mission of improving literacy in our state, specifically at our school. We encourage students to reach their point goal, but also maintain an 80% or better passing rate average on AR quizzes."
